Have a Recipe Request?

I am always delighted to hear about your cooking adventures, tips and ideas. I love to learn about new ingredients, where you have been and what you have eaten. The food and recipes I blog about is the food I love and cook at home for my family and friends. I am not a chef, I am just a girl who loves to cook, eat and learn about food. If I am inspired by something I have eaten at a restaurant, if I have seen a recipe on TV or read about something in a magazine I will use these ideas to try and create something of my own.


If you feel as if I am overlooking a particular favourite of yours or if you are unsure of what to do with a particular ingredient please do not hesitate to contact me and let me know. I am sure the KO kitchen can conduct some creative experiments with your ingredients. If you require a recipe for a special occasion or just an everyday meal to suit your particular veggie or dietary needs either leave a comment or email me. I will try to get back to you with your recipe as soon as I can. I am a dreamer so please be patient with me.

    Hey there Annu, I'm very well thank you! I believe magaj is made from a combination of chickpea flour (besan) and black gram flour (urad) whereas mohanthal is only made from besan. I also think that magaj contains almond powder and granulated sugar as opposed to sugar syrup although I am not certain on this. But yes, magaj is made from besan and urad flour πŸ™‚ Hope this helps!

    Hey Sanju, loving the blog and going to give the coconut cake a go at the weekend. Back to 'Dinner with the Family', you summed it up very well, however I did notice that you were not dancing….. The food gets a thumbs up from all of us except that the Gulab Jamuns were not to our usual taste and did not go down too well…too sweet and the syrup was a bit too runny. Otherwise it was all good. 8/10

    If you like it hot then add as many chillies to these recipes as you like- I have added less but you can increase the amount so it is to your liking (as is the case will all my recipes). They should still taste great! πŸ˜€ Hope this helps!

    Hi Sanjana! My husband is Gujarati and a big fan of daar bhat… Whenever I try my sasu's recipe, it never works out… I think its because she isn't really using "proper" measurements and leaves a lot to judgement… Would you happen to have a recipe?

    Hi there,love your website,you make cooking easy and fun.Could you please give me a receipe for eggless fruit cake and also my recent trip to South Africa,I went to Durban and ate a cake called snowball at the Hare Krishna temple and was amazingly good,do u have the receipe.Also when using yogurt for baking,should take the water out or use it as is.

    Sadaf- I use store bought paneer for paneer kebabs as they keep their shape better than homemeade. If you plan to use homemade then I suggest that it is pressed under a very heavy weight for at least 24 hours.

    Annu- I will see what I can do for you. I have something similar in mind.

    Anonymous- Sorry, I have never heard of that cake. What did it taste like? I am planning to do an eggless fruit cake in time for Christmas due to a number of requests. When you use yogurt for baking you do not need to remove any liquid. Whisk it up and use it as it is.

    and i have deceided to make Mohanthal – i saw your recipe above – but really would like to make dhilo mohanthal – so that it canbe eaten hot with a spoon as opposed to cut in to squares.
    Please plaese can you devise me a recipe for this request to cater for 30 people.

    Hi Sanjana… I was forwarded your blog by my friend who appears to be sympathetic to my new found love of cooking (unlike my wife who is horrified by the devastation I am causing in the kitchen !!!)and I cant thank him enough for it…more than the recipes itself which are amazingly refreshing and appetizing, I love the way you describe each one of them.     Bhav- Keep them in an airtight container(like a biscuit tin) otherwise they will go stale and hard. I did make the cupcakes I told you about and they were an epic fail. I wouldn't have given the recipe to the soul of Satan lol- they were just awful. I'll send you some other cupcake recipes through once I've recovered a little from my lurgies.

    How about things they could easily make themselves? For lunch I love paneer wraps made with tandoori paneer and lots of salad. Although I have no shame and would take idli sambhar, masala dosa and urad to work for lunch.

    Most teens won't take Indian food to school for lunch because it will get too much attention and raise lots of questions from friends. I know this because I felt the same way when I was at school. I'd go for something less 'odourous'. Pasta salad is always good. Plain boiled pasta mixed with grated carrots, lettuce, peppers, some eggless salad cream, grated cheese, black pepper and a couple of spoons of plain yogurt. Skip the onions but add some fresh herbs if you have them. I sometimes mix in a tin of mixed beans (cannelini, butter beans and kidney beans) for a slight variation. This is great because you can change the whole dish by adding different veggies.

    Similarly, potato salad is also a good choice. I make it with sour cream, dried oregano and a mixture of white potatoes and sweet potatoes. It's good with wraps and cheese.

    For breakfast you can do pancakes. Flour, sugar, sour cream, a pinch of baking powder and any fruit you like. Berries are great. Or for savoury pancakes omit the sugar and add a tin of sweetcorn and some chopped spring onions and cheese.

    For dinner, you could stick to one pot dinners like mixed beans (from a tin) with soya chunks, lots of tinned tomatoes, onions, garlic and fajita seasoning (I used discovery). Serve with warm tortillas, guacamole, yogurt and nachos.

    Pasta with peas for dinner is good. Make a white sauce by heating olive oil in a pan, adding a tbsp or two of flour and cooking until slightly pink and aromatic. Slowly add milk and whisk until you reach a sauce consistency. Put in a handful of frozen peas, fresh basil leaves, salt, a pinch of nutmeg and a couple of cloves of garlic. Heath through and then puree with a hand blender. You'll get a green sauce which you can add boiled pasta too. Serve with some warm bread.

    Hi anon- I don't recall making a cheesecake with tofu and paneer but have made a variety of other eggless cheesecakes like: Blueberry and White Chocolate Cheesecake, Saffron and Lemon Shrikhand Cheesecake and Cardamom and Chocolate Cheesecake.

    As I mentioned after your butter paneer recipe, I've always failed at making curries from scratch – they either don't have enough flavour or they taste bitter. I'm wondering if you can recommend a chef/cookbook/website that is good for the basics of indian cooking and who reliably produces tasty/heavily spiced (I'm a bit of a foodie who likes a big bang of flavour) recipes? Thanks for your advice. Love your blog.

    Hey all, I'm currently working on some super recipes for dhilo mohanthal, khatta dhokra and Jain dishes.

    Anjali, here are some aubergine dishes:

    Dhai Varo Oroh
    Mashed Aubergine with Green Peas
    Peanut-Stuffed Whole Vegetables

    You can use a grill for any of my BBQ recipes – it will work just as well!

    Madhur Jaffrey, author of Curry Easy and lots of other Indian cookbooks is a great chefand cookbook author. Try checking out some of her books. Hope this helps!

    I discovered your blog a couple of weeks back and since then I have been hooked on to it. I am a vegetarian and it is simply wonderful to find a blog with such delightful Indian vegetarian recipes. I have tried a couple of your recipes and I am happy to report that they have been a success.

    I plan to make your butter Paneer Butter Masala this weekend. Did I mention that I am a huge Paneer fan:-). And I must say that your Mughlai spread is simply awesome!!!

    Last weekend I wanted to try my hand at making thepla, so I turned to your blog for help. But there was no recipe for that. Could you possibly post one?
